SEGA of America, Inc. and SEGA Europe Ltd. today announced that Phantasy Star Universe will be available on the Xbox 360. Scheduled for release in Fall 2006, the highly-anticipated role playing game (RPG) will release on multiple platforms including the PlayStation 2 and PC. Phantasy Star Universe offers two complete RPG experiences – a single-player action adventure spanning multiple planets, and a robust online multiplayer component that will support Xbox Live.

Since its humble beginnings in 1988, Phantasy Star has revolutionized the RPG genre by creating new standards through innovative gameplay and online capability. Phantasy Star Universe offers a compelling story, both offline and online, that rebuilds the foundation of role-playing games with stunning cut scenes, sharply drawn personalities, and a cohesive narrative. This game revitalizes the Phantasy Star brand heritage while staying true to its roots.

"The reinvigoration of this beloved franchise on the Xbox 360 signifies another step for SEGA towards next-gen leadership," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Entertainment Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. "Phantasy Star has a rich history, and now with Phantasy Star Universe in support of the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live, gamers can enjoy a fantasy role-playing experience of unprecedented depth both online with their friends, and offline in the robust single-player game."

Developed by SEGA Studios, Phantasy Star Universe offers long-time fans the single-player experience they have been clamoring for. The solo adventure features more than 40 hours of gameplay, an emotionally engaging story, stunning cut scenes, and a strong cast of characters with very distinctive personalities. The title's hero is Ethan Waber, a 17-year old cadet who begins his epic journey by first rescuing his sister at the GUARDIANS, a colony under siege by mysterious life forms known as THE SEED.

In Online Mode, players are given the opportunity to create their own characters from a range of races, as they explore all three planets in the Gurhal system. Fans can travel with their friends as a squad of six adventurers, enter urban sprawls teeming with hundreds of other players, and build their avatars into powerful warriors.

Phantasy Star Universe will offer a rich and constantly evolving world that will provide months of entertainment to fans of the series and RPG enthusiasts. The game is slated to ship in Fall 2006.

Why Why Why Why Why Why Why Why Why Why make it for PS2 as well? That means one thing and one thing only... NOT NEXT GEN. You know how I know? MLB 2K6. They made it for all consoles, and look how its doing on 360. Greedy idiots, just wait for the POS3 if you REALLY have to. Don't make us suffer anymore. The future is NOW.

Expect this game to go in the same direction as Final FantasyXI. The PS2 and it's limited capabilities is holding gaming back. It's stupid and over-rated large installed base of units still has developers creating devs with the last gen in mind. I really don't consider the PS2 as last gen. The Dreamcast had much cleaner looking games while Sony initially claimed the PS2 to be graphically superior. I never saw that at all. So I consider the announcement of this multiplatform title to be so so. If it was only for the Xbox360, PS3, and Revolution, I'd probably be somewhat enthused.

7 - Sega RULES!!!
Unregistered - Douchbag McGee 04.19.2006 15:15
Though I agree it won't rock the gaming world since it's not an exclusive title, IT'S STILL SEGA!!! One of (if not the) best video game makers ever, won't disappoint on the X360 version.

8 - By the way
omegaheat 04.19.2006 15:15
If anyone was confused by my comment. When I said that I don't consider the PS2 as last gen; I see it as the generation before the launch of Xbox and Gamecube. Both were arguably superior to the PS2. Yes, I said the Gamecube. Don't be in denial. Most PS2 games were hard on my eyes.

9 - Thanks dude
Unregistered - PS2 hater 04.19.2006 15:49
Yeah, I echo the Gamecube and Dreamcast statement. They are both better on the eyes. And since you brought up the dreamcast... remember the memory cards that fit into the controller? Man that was the best. I remember playing Blitz with that, which allowed you to pick your play on your controller!!! Infinately useful when playing with a teammate but against others in the room. Aww, memory lane...

10 - Name that Movie!
Unregistered - Hhahaha 04.19.2006 16:31

The prize is Madden 06. If you live in the US, I will ship it to ya, just post your address...

FreeMonk 04.19.2006 21:14
Why are Sega making this for the PS2? There online service is rubbish, yet they are still releasing it.

I though Phantasy Star was solely a online game RPG?

Although it will look nice on the 360, it will be limited down due to it being on last gen machines. Shame!

I would love it if Jet Set Radio Future 2 came to the 360 or if Jet Grind Radio came to the Xbox Live Arcade

21 -
FreeMonk 04.19.2006 23:00
Screw Jet Set Radio and PSO and Sonic. I want a sequal to Nights. One of the most original yet playable games Sega have ever made.

Give us a sequal or even the original on the Marketplace, Online scoring or even 2 player battles. Nights is excellent!

22 - Where is...
Mighty Boom 04.19.2006 23:18
Where is the next gen Mortal Kombat? I feel like im the only one fending to play this game. Am I?

23 -
FreeMonk 04.19.2006 23:46
I think you are Boom! MK was a great game, but it's a little dated now. I think the new generation are not to bothered about MK now, although it was a great game.

Everyone is into Halo now Boom. If you can't beat them, join them Boom! ha ha ha

24 - Forget Mortal Kombat...
Unregistered - Gamer 04.20.2006 01:49

31 - THIS IS NEX GEN!!
Unregistered - BulletToothDave 04.22.2006 07:26
PC= NEXT GEN

360= NEXT GEN

PS2= LAST GEN

What do we learn from this? That this game will be a next gen game geared for the Xbox 360 and PC and ported to the PS2!

NUFF SAID!
