Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion gets a launch date

2KGames today confirmed to 360Monster that their upcoming fantasty RPG will be launched on the Xbox 360 during the week of March 20th.
The game will be available in both regular and collectors edition.
"Oblivion will set the new standard for next generation gaming and change the way role-playing games are viewed forever," said Vlatko Andonov, President of Bethesda Softworks. "We set very high goals and ensure they are reached because that is what our fans deserve and have come to expect from Bethesda Softworks. We are very proud of our team's accomplishments with respect to Oblivion."

Mortal Kombat looks set to hit the 360 marketplace

Midway yesterday revealed some new titles coming to the Xbox 360 arcade at the Los Angeles 'Pulse Event'. Midway said that Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Defender, Root Beer Tapper and the classic Paperboy would all hit the marketplace sometime in 2006.

Is it a gaming tablet, a new multimedia device, a portable PC, a DVD player... or what? Whatever, it's not a handheld Xbox apparently In fact, if the latest informed speculation surrounding Origami is to be believed, the device is being pitched as a kind of cut-price tablet-style PC, offering a light and portable package for XP users who can't be arsed to lug around a proper laptop when they're on the go. Check out those 'go anywhere' lifestyle images on the site and the slightly cringeworthy concept movie and that would seem to fit the profile.

Battlefield 2 Demo Coming Mid-March

Electronic Arts have announced that the recent delay to Battlefield 2: Modern Combat was not development related, but to place Battlefield 2 in the best possible launch window. Or to us, because they didn’t want to compete directly with UbiSoft’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. -- " “The game is complete and in the final phases of testing at this moment. The new ship date is not related to product development, but rather to place BF2MC in the best possible launch window.” -- EA did confirm that a Battlefield 2: Modern Combat Multiplayer Demo will be available via the Xbox Live Marketplace around mid-March although no specific date was given.

Irrational Games has revealed extensive new information about its upcoming Xbox 360 FPS/RPG hybrid Bioshock, this could be one of the hottest games of 2007. US games mag Game Informer has the scoop. Bioshock is seen as a ‘spiritual successor’ to classic PC series System Shock, one of the first games to combine the FPS and RPG genres and also credited as the first game to offer the player a free-roaming world. Bioshock is built on the same principles, but the setting and the atmosphere is distinctly next-gen.

Snooping around my archive of blogs about the Xbox and the Xbox 360, I found this very small but nonetheless interesting post on the "Gamerscore Blog" run by the Microsoft PR team.
They talk about HD DVD and why Microsoft is aiming for it rather than go with "Beta-ray" (Blu-ray) as they call it:
"After reading Sunday’s New York Times (requires registration), I really wanted to find out a bit more around HD DVD. So I sat down with some folks working on Xbox 360’s upcoming HD DVD drive*, and asked: Why HD DVD? Why not Blu-Ray? (for the purpose of this post, I’ll lovingly call it ‘Beta-ray’)
